Health: Me and My Sensitive Teeth

"Sensitive teeth is often detected when we eat or drink something hot, cold, sweet, or sour. The pain can be sharp and sudden and can shoot deep into the nerve endings of your tooth."

I have sensitive teeth, a very bad one. Lately when I drink even normal room temperature water, it can cause me so much pain. I already used sensitive toothpaste but it didn't help. The pain gets worse day by day, so I went to my dentist.

What cause sensitive teeth?
"You get sensitive teeth when your gums pull back and expose the surface beneath, called the dentin. This soft layer makes up the inner part and roots, which have thousands of tiny tubes that lead to the tooth's nerve center (the pulp). These channels allow the trigger -- for example, the hot, cold, or sweet food -- to reach the nerve in your tooth, which results in the pain you feel."

Teeth Structure

There are other things that can cause sensitive teeth. My dentist said the wrong way of brushing your teeth can cause it too. When the dentist checked me out, a little touch of her tool cause me pain. It located at the canine right lower teeth. The gum was lower than the other. She asked whether I used sensitive toothpaste for sensitive teeth, and I confirmed it. She said the only thing that can help me was to give white filling (bonding) to cover exposed root surface. She said this procedure usually works for sensitive teeth. I let her do it.

It was pretty painful and awkward after the filling. I feel a bit pain as I ate for several days. Now, I get used to the filling and no longer feel pain. Even though the big problem already solved, I still have another sensitive teeth at the upper level. That night, the dentist tried to find which one, yet still unable to discover it. The pain for sensitivity become less now. But I really need to find out the upper level sensitive teeth.

The dentist also recommended me to use dental floss instead of toothpick. She said toothpick can also be the cause to sensitive teeth. Well, I never use dental floss. She suggested to use the one with handle. I already bought it but until now I still don't know how to use it, haha. Me and my sensitive teeth!

Health: Fibroadenoma Again

I took a health examination using a tool. The paramedic said, this tool is used by the hospital for people who are afraid to blood and hypodermic needle. The test is short but pretty amazed with the result. There are several result that need to be noted.

First, I have too many nicotine in my lung. I don't know how it got there as I don't smoke. Maybe this is the cause of my difficulty to breathe, but still need a further examination.

Second, there's a sign of Fibroadenoma. I have removed my fibroadenoma long time ago. The oncologist told me that the tumor might appear again. I used to check up every year, but since the relocation of the hospital, I hardly do it anymore. I tried to sense the lump but I can't feel it, maybe it was too small. I am really afraid that I have to do another surgery again this year. What to do? What to do?

Lesson: January - Meeting Month

January will always be a busy month for me. Meeting and meeting all the time. This January is the busiest month than before. Usually in January, we have 3 annual meetings in the office, but probably this time only 2 annual meeting. The other one will be held on February.

First Annual Meeting
The first one is the annual meeting of a sister company in the company group. My task is to summarize the meeting and to create fun games. Meeting was held in Jogjakarta, I like this city. The weather wasn't friendly cause we are having raining season. Two days of meeting which always end late at night. It was difficult to stay focus with such long hours of meeting. One of my job was to make ice-breaker, so everyone can be fresh and focus again on the meeting.

It wasn't easy to find a good ice-breaker games. We need to think games that can build sense of belonging and team work. My coworker and I managed to give good ice-breakers during the meeting. We laughed, we have fun, we can focus well during the meeting. Beside ice-breakers, we also created an Amazing Race. We made them run and do many things, started from the hotel to Ambarukmo Mall, then to Candi Prambanan and Candi Boko. Tired but all of us have fun. Really enjoyed this sister company annual meeting. Satisfied!!!

Second Annual Meeting
This was the meeting of the big company. Main task is to summarize the meeting but as a senior secretary I have many tasks. I am the organizing committee. I arranged the meals, chose the catering service, the snack. I gave the ice-breakers too, well I used the previous ice-breaker of first meeting, hehe. I am also the steering committee coordinator. So, I have to arrange my other steering committee and made the final summary of the meeting. Super tired, as the meeting ended very late at night, for 4 nights in a row. Tired physically, tired mentally.

Too many tasks made me less focus. There are several out of hand situations. Like the catering was late, the lack of food, the other small meeting that want to change the result in every time, etc. There are frictions in the whole committee. I even lose my control and got angry to coworkers due their lack of responsibility. This was a hard one.

At the end, everything went well. Thanks be to God. Thank You, Lord for providing me with strength. I couldn't do it without YOU.

Now, my stamina is really at the lowest level. I have a stiff neck, hard to breathe, blood from nose, headache, gastric tummy, super sleepy, super tired. I need a break, need a vacation...

Lesson to learn:
I need to improve my communication skill again, as I found out that my coworker didn't follow my order on how to finish the task I gave to them. I do like their initiative but their lack of responsibility is really a barrier to the team.

As I quote from the main theme of the meeting: "ONE WORD, ONE ACT"
Really need to implement this one in the team. We need everyone in the team to have one vision and act together to fulfill the vision.

Health: Cholesterol

Last September I did blood test when there's a promo at the apartment. I'll try to do it once a year since I have a bad health history yet sometimes my financial condition become a barrier to do it regulary.

This year result was bad on the cholesterol level. My total cholesterol level is high (250 from the normal range of <200). The composition is also bad where the bad cholesterol (LDL) is high too compare to the good cholesterol (HDL). I am so panic due this condition. Since my father passed away because of a heart attack and high cholesterol make me vulnerable to the heart attack risk, I'm really in stress.

Since I can't afford to go to the specialist, I seek online how to lower the cholesterol level. Some said that garlic can lower the level. So I start to take garlic. I also change my breakfast with oats. My father's friend who I consider as my second father told me to drink a generic medicine called Simvastatin. I bought it and it is cheap. The pharmacist told me that 10mg is enough for my case. I took it once a day before bed. Let's see the result within a month. I really wish my cholesterol will be lower. I will wrote the result later.

A bit further of Simvastatin
Simvastatin is in a group of drugs called HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, or "statins." It reduces levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL).

Simvastatin is used to lower cholesterol and triglycerides (types of fat) in the blood. Simvastatin is also used to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, and other heart complications in people with diabetes, coronary heart disease, or other risk factors. This medicine is used in adults and children who are at least 10 years old.

Health: Welcome back, pain!

It's been awhile since I write about my health condition. Since the surgery, there were no significant pain except for the last 3 months. Yes, the pain comes back. Not as painful as it use to be. What makes me curious is why the pain still exist? Why the pain located at the same right tummy? I have removed my right ovary, so the pain shouldn't be there... Unless...

I remember back then when I went to my gynecologist. When we watch the USG screen and found no sign of cyst yet I feel in pain, she said probably the endometriosis grows outside the womb. If that is the case, even surgery won't be able to stop it. I did remove the ovary but not the womb!

My sister in law always asked me to go back to the gynecologist and also my best friends, but I never do it. I am afraid! No matter how tough I am, when I face my health... I am a chicken.

Lord, please give me the strength to see my gynecologist.

Health: First Cycle

Norelut has done its job well, I didn't get my menstrual for the last 4 months. This drug made me a bit chubby, I gained 1 kilograms each month, my weight now is around 56 - 57 kilograms. More fat than before but a lot said I look much better, more life, not pale anymore. Good choice of drug, doctor!

This week I am having my first menstrual cycle after the surgery. Since Norelut last tablet, I am having a little bleeding for 3 days and then the real menstrual. I don't expect the menstrual to be painful as it used to be but I am wrong. The first day, I felt out of energy. Second day, the pain started to kick.  I took paracetamol again, 3 times a day. This morning the stomach hurt very much. It hits the gastric problem that I have. I can no longer stand paracetamol. This facts hurt cause I don't know another painkiller that safe for my stomach...

I thought I have removed my pain by the surgery. I am wrong, it came back again. Maybe I should just remove the whole womb and stop the menstrual cycle / having early menopause? I really don't know... May the next cycle be lighter in pain...

The Pathology Result

It felt like a long day of waiting to see the pathology result of the surgery. Although I know about what the doctor taken out from the surgery, my fear remain the same due the CA result. My friends already tried to calm me down by showing other result which is higher than mine or by encourage me whatever the result might be I can fight it.

Grace offered her help to take the result from the hospital. When she received it she directly sought for the word no significant of malignancy. She found it and took a picture and sent the picture to me. She called me on her way to the apartment to give the good news. When she arrived at the apartment, we hugged and cried together. I knew how much she cares, she called me for hours and encouraged me when I had the CA 125 test's result. We are very glad and relief with this pathology result.

The result stated:
1. Adnexa dextra - endometriosis ovary cyst 7x4x3cm
2. Adnexa sinistra - endometriosis ovary cyst 3x2x1.5cm
3. Myoma uteri - 1.5x1x1cm

Microscopic Result:
1. Endometriosis right ovary cyst - there is no significant of malignancy
2. Endometriosis left ovary cyst -  there is no significant of malignancy
3. Myoma uteri - mitosis index 0/50HPF- there is no significant of malignancy

Now, after the pathology result the doctor start to stop my menstrual cycle with a medicine call Norelut. It is cheaper than the Endrolin I used to take. Hopefully this medicine will work, the menstrual period will stop.

The new battle has begun!

Surgery Chronology

I finally made up my mind to undergo the surgery. The support from family, friends and others gave me an extra courage to made this decision. A deeper surrender that God whisper to me hit me at the right moment, I have no longer objection toward the surgery.

July 3rd, 2012
I entered the hospital this day with my parents and Grace. I chose the lower class for the lower cost. Even though the health insurance cover up the cost, there will be exceed cost that I have to pay. The room filled with 7 beds but only 3 occupied. I got bed no 1.

At the afternoon many friends came to visit and we also prayed together. Grace and Nit2x stayed with me til 11PM. They wanted to stay for the stomach cleansing process. I don't like this process at all. The nurse tried in every way to clean the stomach. Started with pills, gliserine, and water. The painful one was when they put the glycerine and water from my rectum. The result wasn't good.

July 4th, 2012
The surgery started at 8AM but the nurse woke me up at 4AM to repeat the stomach cleansing process. Oh God, I said. Again, it failed. So the nurse decided to gave tampon inside my rectum. Trust me, it was awful. My family came at 6AM together with some friends. We prayed together. The nurse brought me to the surgery room at 7AM. After the anesthetic, I couldn't remember a thing.

My parents said the surgery ended at 10:30. I was returned to my room at 2PM. I was awake around 4PM when the visiting hours start. I wasn't completely awake so I can't recognize friends who came. I knew there were many of them but couldn't remember. The anesthetic effect still on.

July 5th, 2012
I woke up early, around 3AM. The nurse showed me what the doctor took from the surgery. The figure wasn't clear as the water wasn't clear. My dad said the doctor remove the right ovary, the left ovary is still on its place, but there's a myoma on the left ovary. The doctor also remove the ovary myoma.

The doctor came early to check on me. He confirmed what my dad said. He also said that the cyst on the right ovary "ate" the ovary, till it became broken. There was no way to save the right ovary. He also said the right ovary function is 3/4 due the myoma but I still can have period and a chance to have a child.

July 6th,2012
This morning I had a fever. I decided to go home today. The nurse said I may not go home if my fever remain high. So I tried my best to reduce the fever. My dad handled the payment and the admin for my release. The health insurance covered 6.4 while the total cost is 11.3. So, we still have to pay the rest.

I went  home around 7PM, I manage to get the fever down. I lost my appetite and my head was very heavy when I go home. I insisted to go since I don't really like to stay at the hospital, the bed, the food, everything seemed awful. I didn't want to stay any longer, 4 days is enough.

That's the chronology of my surgery. I will update with the picture when the pathology result come up. No matter what comes up at the pathology report, I just want to say that I am grateful, thankful, and blessed.

Thanks to my parents, dr. Budiyo Santosa SpOG, Pastor Pikor SVD, Mr and Mrs Budi Santosa, Mr Prawita, Mrs Ratna Osis, Nit2x, Grace, Siska, Imelda, Rika for actually being there, for praying all the time, and for financial support. You're my angels without wings.

Thank you to friends and colleagues which I can't mention one by one. Thank you for you support. May God return your favor abundantly. I'm blessed to have you in my life.

Thank You, Jesus for the strength, for the success on the surgery, and especially for giving me a chance to have a child with my left ovary. You still give me a chance, I am so happy. You are My Savior, My Wonderful and Powerful God, Jesus. Your love and miracle never ends in my life. Thank You, Jesus. Thank You...

Surgery or Not???

These last 2 months have been the greatest struggling. I have to go to the hospital many times due the endometriosis, my condition is getting worse. I depend on pain killer very much now days. Afraid that my body will become immune to the pain killer. Can't take another mefenamic acid, solely depend on paracetamol which in long term of usage will destroy my stomach, kidney and heart

My parents asked to have a surgery to remove everything (womb, cyst, ovary). This kind of surgery will bury my dream of marriage and having a child. As I studied more and more, I am not ready to do this. The alternative medicine will take a lot of time, while the pain gets increase every month. A lot of things in my mind right now. The possibility of cancer and hysterectomy haunt me every day.

God, I really don't know what to do. Surgery or not? Can you answer this one question for me please, God?

ER Again and Again

As I regularly take birth control pills, I expect the pain of menstrual will be less. I was completely wrong. This month menstrual pain is worst then ever!

It started on Sunday (20/5), with no pain but strong headache. Monday (21/5) the stomach started to kick. I decided not to go to work and rest. I took Panadol Menstrual to help with the pain. Tuesday (22/5) the pain were getting worse. The upper stomach kicked too. So I took medication for gastric problem along with the paracetamol. I felt a bit better but still not going to work that day.

Wednesday (23/5), I went to the office like usual with a promise to myself if my condition gets worse, I should go home directly. I survived to work a day. Thursday (24/5), another usual office day. I took my medication as usual, the menstrual already over. But that afternoon the gas on my stomach started to growled. I ate my lunch on time, but I forget to take the gastric medicine. OMG! The pain was unbearable! Then I took the wrong step! I took mefenat acid when the gas was high without gastric drug.

At 11PM Thursday, I can't stand, the stomach was in big pain. Each position I tried cause the pain more and more. I couldn't bear it. After trying to survive, I finally agreed to my friend to go to ER. At nearer hospital, the ER wasn't crowded. They immediately took care of me. They injected me with 2 types of drug for the pain and the gas. The first needle broke my vein. So the nurse seek another vein to inject the medicine. When she finally able to inject the drug, it felt so painful. I went home after an hour there. I couldn't sleep that night. The gas still high, the pain didn't disappear.

In the morning (Friday, 25/5), I went back to the hospital, directly seeking for an internist. He examined me very well, ordered for blood test and full abdominal USG. I rest at ER again and they gave me pain killer.
The result from USG showed the internal part was in good health (pancreas, kidney, heart, bladder) except for the uterus. Right ovary showed a cyst of 7cm x 4cm. He even suspected for another cyst on the left ovary. The blood test result showed I'm lack of hemoglobin and the size of my red blood is somehow smaller than the normal size. Oh God, what is happening to me?

The doctor gave me antibiotic for the stomach and a medicine for gas reduction. The doctor said if the gas still high, I must rest at the hospital for further examination. He gave several restriction in food to prevent higher gas level. The only problem is how to increase the hemoglobin. Iron will increase the gastric, so I can't take any iron... Oh... What to do, what to do???

Today (27/5), the gas is under control but the pain from the cyst remind there. I can stand on my own although sometimes the lack of hemoglobin makes me dizzy. I wish I can make the pain from cyst disappear. I asked my friend who is a doctor and she said all pain killer will give an effect on the stomach. So far the gas still under control.

I'm aware that the size is big enough to undergo the surgery. But I am afraid of another surgery. I'm afraid that my dream of having a child will disappear.

Dear God, what should I do?

Special thanks to Nit2x for forcing me to go to the hospital, to Grace and Imel for being there with me.

It Still There

Check up time! My gynecologist told me to check up again on the day I got my period. So I did as she said so. I hoped that the result will be good, that the cyst become smaller. Yet the result confirm that the cyst still there, more firm shape this time. A cyst of 7cm x 4cm that divide with a layer, so it looks like 2 cysts. This picture below looks like my cyst but smaller; mine is AB = 7cm and CD = 4cm.

The good from the result is that the cyst remain the same in size. The bad is it still there.

I'm back with birth control pills, the doctor asked me to take it for 3 months and return to her after it. I took it since day 1 of the period. Entering day 3 now. Hopefully this medicine can reduce the size of it and the pain. Cause if I have to be honest, I'm very tired of the pain. It feels like dying each time I have my period. The stomach full of gas, I can hardly breathe, I couldn't walk straight, the pain stroke from the right tummy to my back and then to my leg. Gosh, it's very painful. I can't handle it without pain killers. Should I depend on pain killer for the rest of my life?

How can I keep my dream of having a child if this disease still here?

Dear God, I need You.

News on Endometriosis

The acupuncture therapy was ended 5 months ago, but I am very afraid to go to the gynecologist to check the development on my endometriosis. Until tonight, I gathered all my power to meet her again. The power came from the pain I experienced in my latest period.

The ultrasonography scan showed a cyst with total diameter of 7cm. The dimension is 7cm x 4cm x 3cm. The gynecologist a bit confused cause the shape of the cyst is not rounded, it's oval. She said, she saw not just one but two cysts. I am on my fertile period and sometimes there's a follicle show during this period. She suggested for me to come again to check it when I have my next menstrual. She needs to be sure whether the cyst is growing or not. Meanwhile she recommended to drink another birth control pills. My gosh... Am I facing another surgery???

Development on Bleeding in My Eyes

I went to the ophthalmologist on March 7th. I found another bleeding when I opened my eyelid, that's the reason I went to the doctor. The doctor said the blood pressure on my eyes were normal and the bleeding was a normal reaction due the cough. I said "huh?... cough?". Well, I have cough but not that heavy to cause eye bleeding, I think. I am still curious about the real cause.

The doctor gave me a vitamin and an eye drops (Vasacon-A). This eye drops is the same one I have for the pterygium. Vasacon-A contains of naphazolinea is a decongestant and antazoline is an antihistamine. The combination is used to relieve redness, puffiness, itchy and watering eyes associated with colds, allergies or eye irritations.

I followed all the order and now the red dot has disappear, but the bleeding in upper eye (covered with eye lid) is still there. The color is not red anymore, it turns to brown. A good signal for healing I think. I hope to be recover completely by this week.

Bleeding in My Eye

This morning when I looked at the mirror for brushing my teeth, I found a red dot in my left eye, right in the left corner. Oh my God, the blood vessel in my eye is bleeding. No pain, no itchy... When I look with usual look, I barely see the spot. I already put eyes drop, the one I use for the pterygium. So far, no reduction of the red spot.

I search on the internet for it. The finding are:
http://www.emedicinehealth.com/subconjunctival_hemorrhage_bleeding_in_eye/article_em.htm

Subconjunctival Hemorrhage Overview

The conjunctiva is the thin, moist, transparent membrane that covers the white part of the eye (called the sclera) and the inside of the eyelids. The conjunctiva is the outermost protective coating of the eyeball.

The conjunctiva contains nerves and many small blood vessels. These blood vessels are usually barely visible but become larger and more visible if the eye is inflamed. These blood vessels are somewhat fragile, and their walls may break easily, resulting in a subconjunctival hemorrhage (bleeding under the conjunctiva). A subconjunctival hemorrhage appears as a bright red or dark red patch on the sclera.

Subconjunctival Hemorrhage Causes

Most subconjunctival hemorrhages are spontaneous without an obvious cause for this bleeding from the conjunctival vessels. Often, a person may discover a subconjunctival hemorrhage on awakening and looking in the mirror. Most spontaneous subconjunctival hemorrhages are first noticed by another person seeing a red spot on your eye.

The following can occasionally result in a spontaneous subconjunctival hemorrhage:
sneezing, coughing, straining/vomiting, eye rubbing, trauma (injury), high blood pressure, bleeding disorder,  or a medical disorder causing bleeding or inhibiting normal clotting.

Subconjunctival hemorrhage can also be non-spontaneous and result from a severe eye infection, trauma to the head or eye, or after eye or eyelid surgery.

For more information, just follow the link above...

I still don't know what happen with my eye, if the case gets worse by the end of the day, tomorrow I shall see the ophthalmologist.

No Period

The acupuncture treatment has ended and I still don't have the courage to go to the gynecologist. It has been 3 months since my last control while she told me to go back on September. Something unusual happened! I don't get my period last month, no pain in my tummy.

This is weird indeed. Hormonal therapy should last only for 30 days and my last Danazol was at the early week of September. But... I have 2 (two) times of period on mid-October. I was hoping to have it by the earliest or end of November. It's not happening.

I should go to the gynecologist, I should have the USG scan on my tummy. I used to be brave to face this disease. I always want to prove that acupuncture can heal it. But this time... I have no courage, I'm so afraid. What if this time the acupuncture didn't work?

"Jesus, I'm so afraid. I don't know how to handle this. I don't have the courage and I don't have the money. It's difficult, Jesus. But I'll praise You in this storm, Jesus... For You are my Savior, my Refuge. For You are my Strength, my Hope. May Your name be glorify now and forever."

Back to Acupuncturist = Back to Vegetarian Style

As I discovered my endometriosis, I returned to my acupuncturist. He was the one who made my endometriosis disappear when I have it again after the surgery. I can't remember the exact year, around 2007 - 2008. That time my endometriosis was as big as this one. I met him, the acupuncturist, through Leo, my best friend. Thank you so much, Leo (-:

He always begins with pray. He is a catholic. I like it the most when he says... In the name of Jesus, you shall be healed. I feel that Jesus is in the room with us. I believe this treatment will give the same result as it was before. Help me, my friend... As my birthday present, can you please pray for me? So I shall be healed.

Back to the acupuncture, the rules of this treatment from this acupuncturist are:
1. No more seafood and spicy food for the rest of my life
2. Be a vegetarian! Eat only vegetables, "tahu", "tempe" and fruits
3. During the treatment, fruits that  are allowed: watermelon, papaya, apple, pear, and cantaloupe
4. Avoid chili, pepper, and broth
5. Avoid milk, meat, and cheese (all animal protein)

Note to my friends:
Please understand my current vegetarian style, but I am still available to any invitation for lunch or dinner. Don't worry about what I will eat, I can eat rice, plain white rice (-:

I really need support at this moment, so please don't judge me for my choices.
Thank you....

Unexpected Gift: Another Endometriosis

Health is always a big issue in my life, with the history of fibroadenoma and endometriosis. The last few months I always had pain in my right tummy and my first diagnosis is endometriosis. My friends keep encouraging me to check it out, but I am afraid...

Last Friday I went to my gynecologist, this last few weeks the pain on my right tummy become worst. It was 3 years ago since I visited her. I have another diagnosis of my pain, which are appendix problem or something about my kidney. I wanted to go to other doctor, but I think the gynecologist was the best choice since they have a USG device.

To tell you the truth, even when I know it would be endometriosis, I wish it was something else. As, the doctor began to scan my tummy, she said... there is an endometriosis on my right uterus with diameter of 5.7 cm. I just stared at the monitor and said "Jesus"....

I asked her what to do now. She gave me two options: an oral medicine (danazol / danocrine) or an injection of endrolin. I was injected by endrolin 8 times before, 4 after the surgery, and another 4 when she discovered the grow of endometriosis on 2007-2008. The price of endrolin was high, around 1 - 1.2 million IDR. I asked her about the current price, she said still the same. OMG, I can't afford it. So I choose the oral medicine called danocrine which cost me 360.000 IDR. I will start to drink it on the 5th day of my period next month, really wish that it can reduce the size of the endometriosis.

On my way home, I realize another thing... I always found out about my diseases on August, the month of my birth. So, thank you, Lord for this year's gift. I look forward to see Your miracle on me, Almighty God. I believe You will help me pass through this stage again.

Pterygium and Pinguecula

This is funny, mostly I found out about my disease in August, either early or end of August. I discovered my fibroadenoma on early August 1998, my endometriosis also in early August 2005, pterygium or pinguecula in end of August 2010.

Actually in 2005, I got a problem with my sight, it became blur. I went to an ophthalmologist and he said there was an injury in my cornea. A year later, I went back to the same doctor because my eyes were hurt again. He diagnosed there was something like cyst in my right eyes. A little benign or lump on the white area of my eyes.

Last week, suddenly my eyes hurt, not red but painful. I gave a regular eye drop but it didn't help. On Monday I saw for the very first time, there is another small benign under the first benign. I went to an eye clinic, the doctor said it can be remove only by surgery but the surgery will only be perform if the benign disturb the cornea. She ordered me to wear glasses all the time to prevent it from going bigger. The wind, sunshine, and sand/dust will trigger the growth.

What is pterygium and pinguecula?

A pterygium is a fleshy growth that invades the cornea (the clear front window of the eye). It is an abnormal process in which the conjunctiva (a membrane that covers the white of the eye) grows into the cornea.

A pinguecula is a yellowish patch or bump on the white of the eye, most often on the side closest to the nose. It is not a tumor but an alteration of normal tissue resulting in a deposit of protein and fat. Unlike a pterygium, a pinguecula does not actually grow onto the cornea. A pinguecula may also be a response to chronic eye irritation or sunlight.

New Report on The Pain

It's been quite a long time since i wrote about my endometriosis pain. The last 2 months, the pain when I got my period was still as usual. As for the pain killer I change into Novalgin, recommended by a friend of mine who is a doctor... Thank you, Devie. Novalgin consist of metamizole sodium. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, commonly use as a powerful analgesic and antipyretic .

This month period came on August 3, but I feel the pain since Aug 2nd. It hurt especially when I raise up from sit position. The pain is like... imagine that you have an open wound located on your inner elbow. When you close your arm the wound will stick to another skin and when you open the wound will cause you pain because it's not dry enough and still stick to the skin (I hope I describe it clearly). It's like tearing your clothes apart. It hurt so much. The burning sensation of it make me pause a while. So, each time I stand up, I have to adjust my balance... hold on the wall or the table until the pain disappear then I start to walk.

As write and post this entry, I still feel the pain. After 2 days in a row using pain killer medicine, I decided to stop. Hopefully I can endure the pain (cross my fingers). Turn out I made a wrong decision, it hurt so badly all day long... even when I took the pain killer... D'oh!

Itai... Itai... Itai... :'(

By the way, I want to thank my friend, Ruben (again) for trying to help me with the pain. Thanks for showing me the website of self hypnosis. I'll try it. Hope I will be able to stop the pain with it.

Sinusitis

Recently I have been diagnosed with maxillary sinusitis. It's not a surprise me, since I had cold and flu for a long time. My sinusitis was chronic. When I went to the specialist, she wondered how can I stand the inflammation. I replied that I didn't feel anything beside cold and flu. I have studied a little on sinusitis through many sites. Here is the most frequent ask questions about sinusitis:

What is sinus?
A sinus is a hollow space within the bones of the face. The sinuses are lined by a delicate membrane called mucosa. The function of sinusitis is to humidify and warm the air, add to the sense of smell and to play a significant role in the quality of human sound. It is well-known that during acute sinusitis, rhinitis and the common cold, the quality of our voice changes and the senses of smell and taste are reduced.

What is rhinitis?
Rhinitis is an inflammation of mucosa (delicate lining of the inner body surfaces) of nasal passages.

What is sinusitis?
Sinusitis is an inflammation of the mucosa of various sinuses, which are located around the nasal passages. Usual symptoms include increased nasal secretions and pain or headache around the sinuses.

What are the symptoms related to sinusitis and blockage of the ostium (openings of the sinuses)?
The following are symptoms of sinusitis, which occur when the sinuses are inflamed and ostium are blocked:
nasal congestion, runny or stuffy nose, pain in the upper jaw or teeth, loss of sense of smell or taste, headache, night time cough, persistent fatigue, fever; white, yellow or green discharge.

What is maxillary sinusitis?
Chronic maxillary sinusitis is defined as sinusitis lasting longer than 12 weeks. Suggestive history as above may include chronic facial pressure (maxillary region), headache, rhinorrhea, postnasal drip, decreased sense of smell, or dental pain.

What are the causes of rhinitis and sinusitis?
Cold viruses, bacterial of fungal infections, nasal polyps and deviated nasal septum, allergies, smoking, dust or environmental pollutants, grass and smog, moderate severe acid reflux.

How is the treatment?
The treatment of acute maxillary sinusitis is usually perscription of a broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic resistant to beta-lactamase, administered for 10 days. Surgery for chronic sinusitis is reserved for those patients who did not respond to medical therapy. Medical treatment should include 3-6 weeks of antibiotics, nasal steroids, and nasal saline irrigations. Antibiotics should be chosen after cultures are obtained endoscopically if possible. Oral steroids are used if significant nasal edema is observed on nasal endoscopy. A short course of decongestants and mucolytics should be considered for patients with significant nasal congestion and thick nasal secretions. CT scanning should be obtained to confirm clinical suspicion of chronic sinusitis. Findings may include significant mucosal thickening, air-fluid levels, ostiomeatal complex obstruction, polyposis, or calcification suggestive of fungal sinusitis.

My Treatment Experience
I took medication for 10 days. My medicines are clarinase, lamison, and cravox. The first time after taking the medicines, I felt nausea, dizzy, and sweaty. Then I searched and found out that the dosage was too big for me. I reduced it myself without consultation. After the medicine finished, I felt a strong headache and hard to open my left eye. So, I saw another specialist and she confirmed that my previous medicines were not suppose to be mixed together. Gee... I'm OD!!! Then she gave me something for the headache and rhinitis.

Hope this information will enrich you about sinusitis.
